There are 2 different Door Answering Intercom Systems, the IK15 and IK25.

These featured built-in door chimes and used simple wiring, the IK15 could be installed in place of an original simple door bell.

An intersting note abou the IK15, it was originally introducted in the mid 1970's as a direct replacement for another companies entry system.

There used to be an Intercom Company named Rittenhouse, they made some of the nicest systems in the late 1950's and early 1960's.  They sold a simple, easy to install entry intercom system inthe early 1960's and it was very popular with new home builders.

When Rittenhouse discontinued their entry system (because they were bought out by another company) NuTone designed the IK15 to take its place.

The IK15 is almost exactly the same size and uses exactly the same wiring as the Rittenhouse model, so it easily took its place.
