Frozen Master Speaker Volume Controls - NuTone IM4006 & IMA4006
Friday, May 29, 2015 at 8:20AM A very common problem with both the NuTone IM4006 and IMA4006 is the Master Speaker sliding Volume Control becoming very difficult to slide or having it freeze up all together.
Over time, as this problem gets worse, the volume knob requires more and more effort to make it slide. This added pressure will eventually stress the plastic and cause it to break off.
To fully correct the problem, it's necessary to disassemble the Master Station and remove the Control Board. This is not something that most inexperienced people should try to do.
There is a “half-way” solution, which doesn't require any real amount of disassembly. The sticky or frozen volume control can be lightly cleaned with the circuit board in place. This will usually solve the problem well enough to make the volume control usable again, in the short term.
