In 1992 everyone was trying to design and convince homeowners that Smart Homes were here - they weren't.

NuTone's Home Control was based on an older technology called X-10.  A simple control protocol that was unreliable without any feedback that the requested operation had taken place.

It was unreliable, difficult to install and expensive.
