In response to several requests, I have made a Video showing how to remove the Cassette Player Assembly from a NuTone IM4006. The removal process is exactly the same for a NuTone IMA4006.
The most important tool for this task is the magnetized Phillips Screwdriver. Without it, you run the risk of dropping one of the cassette mounting screws down inside the void of the Master Station.
A very common problem with both the NuTone IM4006 and IMA4006 is the Master Speaker sliding Volume Control becoming very difficult to slide or having it freeze up all together.
Over time, as this problem gets worse, the volume knob requires more and more effort to make it slide. This added pressure will eventually stress the plastic and cause it to break off.
To fully correct the problem, it's necessary to disassemble the Master Station and remove the Control Board. This is not something that most inexperienced people should try to do.
There is a “half-way” solution, which doesn't require any real amount of disassembly. The sticky or frozen volume control can be lightly cleaned with the circuit board in place. This will usually solve the problem well enough to make the volume control usable again, in the short term.
I've made a how-to Video that shows the steps of cleaning the volume control while the circuit board is still mounted in the Master Station.
