NuTone IM3003 Master Station - Common Failure Mode #1 - Low Volume

One of the most common and easiest to recognize problems with a NuTone IM3003 Intercom Master Station is extremely low volume on both the Radio and Intercom.

This can be caused by either a failure in the Power Supply Circuit or a failure in the Amplifier Circuit or both.  An amplifier failure is more likely to follow a failed power supply that has been left unrepaired for a long period of time.

Here's aN early (1986) IM3003 that was sent in for repair with extremely low volume.  This Master Station is completely original without any signs of previous repairs.

Here's a short Video showing its working condition as I received it and the after I had rebuilt it.

This was a very straight forward rebuild without any surprises.

After all of the circuit boards were cleaned and rebuilt, the pushbutton switches and the sliding volume controls were cleaned and lubed for easy operation.  The face plate was washed and all of the wall paint was removed.  Final assembly and testing with 3 remote stations and a door speaker showed that this IM3003 is ready for another decade of use.
