A nice touch on the 2542 are the control knobs. They are plastic bodies with stainless steel covers. Unlike most other models which had chrome plated plastic knobs, the stainless steel covers add an upscale feel to the 2542, more like a fine quality Home Stereo design from the time.
The Intercom Controls feature both "Talk" and "Listen" positions for both the Door and Inside Stations. This allowed for just the "Caller" to control the Intercom conversation.
The music selector switch has 3 positions, AM FM and Tape. There is an auxillary input jack on the back of the 2542 where a phonograph can be connected. When this input is used, the selector switch is placed in the Tape position
