There is only a small number of components that need to be replaced in the later version of the NuTone 2561.
The blue arrow points to a multi-core capacitor from the power supply. this type of part is no longer available from any source, so it was replaced with 2 individual capacitors.
The red arrow points to the Master Station Volume Control which was defective. When the control was turned down past the 50% point, the volume would cut out completely.
A fine point about rebuilding these older vintage Masters has to do with component values. Back when the 2561 was manufactured, capacitors were made in values like 50 MFD or 500 MFD and 250 MFD. Modern capacitors would have ratings of 4 MFD and 470 MFD and 220 MFD.
It is tempting to use what you have commonly around the shop, but this would be a mistake. All of the older ordinal values are still available from all of the major component suppliers. These components are made by reliable manufacturers and they only cost a little more. I always use the correct parts, to insure that the set will perform as it was intended.
Another point is about using capacitors in the correct form factor. Older designs used Axial components, this means that the leads are on each end of the component.
Modern designs use Radial components, the leads both come out form the bottom of the component.
It is wrong to substitute Radial parts for Axial parts. I consider it sloppy and incorrect to use the wrong style of parts.
