I can’t say enough about the fine and complete restoration of our NuTone intercom model IM-4006. Chris and Cindy were very professional in their dealings with me. I am retired AT&T tech and my hobby is restoring coin operated arcade games and Jukebox’s. When I talked to Chris about resorting our NuTone Model IM-4006. I asked him what the restoration included he had all the right answers to my questions.
The turnaround was very quick mu IM-4006 Chris received the unit on a Monday and it was back in our house and working by the fowling Saturday. That is Post Falls, ID to Danville, CA and back.
The only complaint I have is there was only one pack of M and M’s and my wife got those. Ha Ha
You did a very good job thank you.

We have a Nutone IM 3303 installed in 2001 as an upgrade to an older system. Following a frequent local power surge, the system seemed to have "died" with none of its functions working. Called the local Authorized Nutone dealer in Tulsa, who has been in busines for years, to see if the system could be fixed. The local Nutone tech came to the house, saw the problem and tested the two transformers to see if power was working. They were both fine. He then promptly proceeded to un-install my Master Control unit to "send it to Chicago for analysis and repair" as he had no idea what else to do. A few days later, I got a call from the dealer stating that Nutone no longer offered to repair intercoms, and I would have to REPLACE my whole system if I wanted an intercom, doorbell and radio system...a $2,500 installation. After doing some reseach, I came upon and contacted Northside Service Co. who looked reliable. I promptly got a phone call from Chris a few days later and he suggested I send the unit to him for analysis and hopefully repair. A few days after it got to him in California I got another call from Chris who informed me he had wired my unit to his workbench system and found NOTHING wrong...it worked perfectly well. He asked if the tech or I had activated the Reset Button, and we discussed how that might well have cured the problem before un-installing and shipping from Oklahoma to California and back. Long story short, Chris sent the unit back to me and I had to have the local tech come out to re-install the Master Control Unit as I had no other choice in Tulsa. He was surprised to learn the unit even had a Reset Button and "no" he had not activated it here or in their shop. When he did get the system re-installed, it worked perfectly well to his great surprise. Chris spent a combined time of about :45 minutes on the phone and was very, very helpful to me. If I had not found Chris and Northside Service, I might have had to spend $2,500 or more to have an intercom system in my home. I am very grateful for his knowledge and assistance with my problem and can only say THANKS CHRIS. You do things the way they used to be done..with pride and care.

I had my Nutone intercom fail after 8 years of service- I thought I'd have to get a new master unit at substantial cost, but emailed and directly spoke with Chris about getting a repair done- he walked me though all the steps and made the shipping and repair process very easy. The cost was very reasonable as well, and the intercom works great! Chris is highly recommended by me for this type of work- it turned out to be a bad power supply.

I recently returned my IM3003 NuTone system to Northside Service Company. It had not worked for the past 5 years and I had almost given up any hope of getting it repaired after checking with local resources. Then I found the NSC website and after contacting them, I shiped my unit to them for repairs. The evaluation determined my system had been hit by lightning, but it was repairable. Chris and Cindy provided great phone support and detailed guidance about how to pack and ship my unit. The turn-around time was approximately a week. It works like a new system, and actually better with the addition of the MP3 plug installed by Chris! I could not be more satisfied, in fact, NSC restores my faith that there are still a few companies out there that provide excellent customer service. Thanks Chris and Cindy--as I told you this was to be my wife's Christmas present, she was thrilled to once again have the system working. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you!

Bought a monticello chime off e-bay because of a search for telechron clocks, and turned out the late 30's early 40's chime had the guts of a newer model (barcelona?) seemed to be all there but chris got me on the right track by tuning it up and getting me the two transformers needed to operate the clock and the chimes as the newer guts used 16 volts and the chimes were 24 volts. 8 gongs sounds good and the time he spent walking me thru my installation was appreciated. Great guy that cares about the customer,

Chris,

My IM 4006 intercom pooped out after 22 years. I thought it may be the transformer so I called AROUND and no one had one available. I found your site and asked about the transformer. Chris asked me a couple questions and determined that a lightning strike next door burned it out and the problem would not be the transformer. Well, the same day, my modem on the computer burned out and neighbors on either side had electronics also burned out. A company in Ft Lauderdale said there were no parts available and I would have to get a new system and that mine could not be repaired as there were no parts available. I called Chris back and said he could fix it if I sent it to him. I called another repair shop in Ft Lauderdale and they said it would cost $2500. Chris walked me through taking it apart which was surprisingly easy and I am not mechanically savvy. I had UPS package and ship it and I got it back a week later with all the burnt out and replaced parts (about 30 pieces). Everything works great now as he walked me through reassembling it and everything works great. Saved me over $2000.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for contacting us about your IM3003. The very first NuTone Intercom Systems were made in the mid 1950's and your IM3003 originally came out in 1984.

It is possible to install a "audio input jack" on the edge of the face plate. I have a posted an article that explains what to buy and how to hook it up.

You can find the article by searching for "adding an audio jack"

Chris, i cannot believe I found your site! I have a different situation with my NUTONE 3003 system. I bought my house brand new in may 1985 and the intercom/radio was one of the options i purchased from the builder, so i am sure it was one of their first models that nutone made. Here it is 2013 and everything works great still. My issue is that gee i kind of would like to be able to play CD's or an IPOD track. Short of buying a whole new intercom/music system whichg costs $1,400, is there a way for you to modify my master unit?

I re-installed the IM3003 that you repaired. It works great. The volume is better than when new (1991). Excellent job and service. I hope you'll be around in 15 to 20 years when I'll probably need your services again.

Hello,
I recently purchased a home that had a NuTone 2561-62 intercom system and accompanying door bell installed. Both systems were next to worthless as time had not been kind to them. With the help of your service manual links and outstanding self help sections...I was able to get both systems up to 100% operating status. I'm amazed!! I figured that I would just have to swap out both systems for new components...but thanks to you I have saved a pile of money and have a great vintage conversation piece in my home.

Thank you!!

Shawn

Cincy and Chris,
In our throw-away society it's great to be able to resurrect these Nutone intercoms. I bought the house when it and the 4006 intercom was 8 years old (1996). Over the years little things have failed and after hours of searching I was able to find the repair parts. By age 25, the intercom became a useless annoyance. Even with the volume turned all the way down there was an annoying hum. I was ready to rip the system out of the wall but decided to give it one more try. Every site that claimed to repair Nutone systems simply directed me to a new intercom and every one of them required all new stations and door chime. The new base and remote stations all required new mounting frames and plastic filler panels that cost almost as much as the stations. When the Northside site popped up on one of my searches it looked too good to be true. You made my old system sing again and you did it for a fraction of the cost and hassle of a new intercom. When Chris called and walked me though the repair process I couldn't pack up the master station quick enough. We are once again able to listed to music and recorded books in our home. Thank you and best wishes for a successful year.

Chris. My Husband and I would like to thank you for the great service your company provided in the repair of my IM 4006 Intercom system. We purchased the house and the intercom did not work. I did not know where to turn for help but in surfing the internet Chris name came up. I still was skeptical until I sent Chris an email and he called me. From that point on I felt very comfortable in doing business with Chris. He was so courteous, Professional and worked with me on getting it repaired. I just wanted to say thanks and would recommend Chris and his company to anyone. It was great dealing with someone that treated you like family. Thanks again Chris

I was thrilled to find Northside Service on the internet as a solution to my Nutone 3003 problems. The service provided by Cindy and Christopher was first class. They provide a very needed service at a fair price! May your business prosper and your reputation grow! My "old fashioned" Nutone equipment is now "retro-cool!"

Thanks Millions.

Chris- My wife and I wish to thank you so much for fixing our MI-3003 master station. We had this installed back in 1990 when we were having some remolding done.

It stop working several years ago, and we tried very hard to have someone fix it. We called around, asked other people if they had the same kind of system and could they recommend a repair person, but no one knew of anyone.

We called an electrician, he came out but couldn't fix it. He even said that he would talk to someone and get back with us; he never did. So this year we called Nutone and they said they couldn't fix

it but wanted to sell us a new one for 1500.00 something different . So we decided to check elsewhere. We found your website . Northside Service. the website also had a picture of our master station.

We called you and you gave us an estimate over the hone. We packed it up and sent it to you . Got it back in a week or so. We want to say the you gave us excellent service. We highly recommend you. Thanks Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great service and quality work, also very helpful with questions about the system

I wanted to thank you for the repair on my Nutone IM3003 intercom. It is working perfectly and my wife and I are enjoying the music through the house as we walk through. It's awfully nice to have a working doorbell again, too. It was impossible to find anyone in my area (Central Florida) to repair my system, so I am extremely grateful that you provide this service. My compliments on a nice website as well. Thanks again.

After several local phone calls to Nutone service dealers I was beginning to lose hope and $1500 for a new unit. I decided to troubleshoot online and Chris' website came up. The website and Chris were very helpful and I decided repairing it myself was not possible; so I shipped the unit to Chris at Northside Service Company. The "like new" unit was returned in less than a week and works like a charm and at a considerable savings. Thank you Chris and Cindy.

I am so glad we found Northside Service! The information that they have made available online is a great service to NuTone owners. Our 1986 vintage NuTone 3003 is back in service, working perfectly and looking like new. Chris is incredibly knowledgeable and professional; his obvious expertise when we spoke on the phone convinced me to ship my NuTone across the country for repair. He replaced a total 37 electrolytic capacitors and a defective chime module; while I might have tackled the former, the latter would have stopped me cold. As an old Yankee I really appreciate being able to repair something rather than just pitching it into the landfill and buying new. We are looking forward to many more years with our system. Thanks again Chris!

This unit is twenty years old and I thought it was a gonner but you put it back in like new condition. Thanks for your professionalism which is very rare
today. For anyone I know needing Nutone repair I will certainly recommend you. Thanks, David Doyal

Chris - wanted to thank you for the great service. My NuTone IM3003 is back in perfect working order. Appreciate the great packing and quick turn around. I still can't get over the number of capacitors that were replaced. Again working great and I expect another 20 years out of it. Will recommend your service to my neighbors. Take care.

I contacted Northside about repairing my NuTone 3003 which was showing its age AND had been damaged by water during wall paper removal. I spoke with Chris and inquired about repair or replacing. He asked a good question, "Would you be replacing the system if it was still working?" The answer was, of course, no. I sent the unit for repair and asked Chris to add an I-Pod docking station. Chris was extremely helpful and never condescending to a novice installer. I failed to connect the ground wire and Chris helped me diagnose and repair the problem. Chris also informed me how to get the static out of the remote speakers. Excellent. The system works like new. The I Pod dock is terrific. Great service. Good value. I would gladly do business with Chris and Northside again.

Up until now everything has worked perfectly, but in the past month the door bell and door speaker have stopped working.
